Every day we get caught up in our routine. We go around and hear so many sounds: music, noise, voices, the TV on, the radio on, youtube on, people singing, screaming, whispering; horns, sirens, dogs barking, traffic….
It can get overwhelming!
But, when was the last time you stopped and just listened?
As if it were your fist time, I invite you to bring awareness to sounds.
Finding a comfortable position and close your eyes. Taking a few deep breaths to relax your body before you start.
Then, just start opening your ears to the experience, without categorizing, analyzing, or trying to grasp or get away from the experience, just as it is.
Think about listening for the very first time, with curiosity and openness. Where are the sounds coming from? What is the quality of the sound and its characteristics, its volume?
Is it constant or does it fluctuate?
We remain present, trying to avoid conceptualization or naming sounds or their sources. We just listen to them, noticing how transient and ever changing they are.
Sounds come and go, some are louder or with a higher pitch. We remain open, without clinging, without judging, just experiencing sound as it is.
If you feel you need to, or get too distracted, you can always come back to your breath.
This practice can help us ground ourselves in the middle of a busy day. You can try it any place or time, and stick with it for a few minutes or as long as you want to.
It´s always good to come back to the present. One breath at a time, one sound at a time.
Let me know how it goes for you. I hope you find it benefitial.
Sending you my best wishes and love.
